Dutch Animated Short Film by Digna van der Put Joins the Oscar Race

“Parade”

Dutch animated short “Parade” by Digna van der Put has been selected by a film committee in The Netherlands for submission into the Best Animated Short Film category for the Academy Awards.

Van der Put is an independent filmmaker based in Rotterdam who started out her career as an art teacher. She turned to a specialty in animation and, in 2009, graduated from the Willem de Kooning Academy. She made the animated short “Squirrel & Elephant,” and worked on the features “Pim & Pom – The Great Adventure,” and “Heinz & Urbanus.”

“Parade,” according to the official description, sees “six fanfare flute players explore the landscape of the uniform. A journey that does not go unscathed.”

“‘Parade’ provides a timely but also timeless look at the parades of life and world history,” the jury said in a statement. “The style and technique connect seamlessly with the theme. The viewer innocently joins the cheerful rhythm and ultimately experiences what parades can stand for.”

The short premiered at the London International Animation Festival and has also screened at the Brussels Short Film Festival, Annecy International Animated Film Festival, and the Melbourne International Animation Festival.

Check out “Parade’s” trailer below, and keep an eye out for it at the Oscars, should it earn a nomination, on February 26, 2017.
