After supporting turns in “Godzilla vs. Kong” and “I Care A Lot,” Eiza González is set to take the lead in “Wolf Country,” a thriller directed by Jennifer Fox. Deadline confirmed the news.
“Wolf Country” will see González playing “a young deputy who is shunned by her entire community when she uncovers a large drug haul that leads straight to a ranch belonging to the town’s lauded and beloved Sheriff, her father. When he escapes custody and flees into the rugged Colorado wilderness, his daughter must face the very man who taught her everything about right and wrong to bring him to justice,” the source teases.
51 Entertainment’s Lynette Howell Taylor and Samantha Housman are producing.
“I struggled slightly with being able to get out of a stereotype or a predetermined idea of who I am as an actress, especially the way that I started my career,” González has said. She added, “[Latinx actors] are either the help or the drug dealer. It always kind of falls in between these two, and it can become boring. I hate to think about myself simply as a Latina actress, but the industry thinks of you in a certain way.”
“Alita: Battle Angel,” “Paradise Hills,” and “Baby Driver” are among González’s credits.
Fox’s narrative debut, “The Tale,” received nods from the Emmy Awards, Indie Spirits Awards, and Gotham Awards. The Laura Dern-starrer tells the story of a documentary filmmaker and professor who is forced to reexamine her past relationship with her coach. Fox’s doc credits include “Beirut: The Last Home Movie,” “An American Love Story,” and “Flying: Confessions of a Free Woman.”
