Elisabeth Moss is expanding her directing résumé. Deadline reports that the Emmy-winning “Handmaid’s Tale” star is set to share directing duties on “Shining Girls” with Michelle MacLaren and Daina Reid. The “Mad Men” alumna also toplines the Apple TV+ thriller.
Based on Lauren Beukes’ best-selling 2013 novel, “Shining Girls” tells the story of a Chicago reporter (Moss) who “survived a brutal assault only to find her reality shifting as she hunts down her attacker.”
Silka Luisa (“Strange Angel”) is serving as showrunner on the eight-episode series.
“MacLaren will direct the first two episodes of the series’ first season, with Moss directing another pair and Reid helming four episodes,” the source details.
Moss and Reid are frequent collaborators. Reid has directed four episodes of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” and received an Emmy nod for her work on the Margaret Atwood adaptation. The pair are also set to team up for “Run Rabbit Run,” a modern-day ghost story about a fertility doctor. Reid will direct Moss in the pic.
A two-time Emmy winner, Moss took home trophies for her leading role in “The Handmaid’s Tale” and exec producing the dystopian drama, which is currently in its fourth season on Hulu. Her film credits include “The Invisible Man,” “Shirley,” and “Us.”
MacLaren took home two Emmys for exec producing “Breaking Bad” and received two directing noms for the AMC megahit. “The Morning Show,” “The Deuce,” and “Game of Thrones” are among her other TV credits. Her upcoming feature slate includes Jennifer Aniston-starrer “Hail Mary,” a biopic about a former Miss USA contestant who becomes a successful sports manager.
Episodes of “Young Rock,” “Space Force,” “Upload,” and “The Outsider” are among Reid’s most recent credits. She made her feature directorial debut with 2010’s “I Love You Too.”
