Magnolia Pictures has acquired U.S. distribution rights to “The Square,” starring Elisabeth Moss, The Hollywood Reporter writes.
The film, THR reports, which is set in the art world, “follows a museum manager in charge of an exhibition space where an artist places a new installation meant to promote altruism. The manager hires a ruthless PR firm to promote the new exhibition, and the publicity gets out of hand, sparking a public uproar. Moss plays a reporter covering the exhibition.”
Magnolia is planning a 2017 release for the film.
Moss has quite a few projects coming up for next year. She’s set to return to Jane Campion’s “Top of the Lake” for Season 2, and will be joined by Nicole Kidman and “Game of Thrones’” Gwendoline Christie. The second season of the murder mystery premieres on BBC Two in the U.K in 2017 and later that year in the U.S. on SundanceTV.
She’ll also star in Hulu’s adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel “The Handmaid’s Tale,” which will be directed by Reed Morano for the first three episodes. The ten-episode series went into production this fall in Toronto and will premiere on Hulu in 2017.
