Elizabeth Banks is taking the Barden Bellas to trilogy town.
After making her directorial debut with “Pitch Perfect 2,” which grossed $285 million worldwide on a $29 million production budget, Banks has decided to helm Part 3 of her passion-project franchise as well.
Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow and Rebel Wilson will return, as will, presumably, Hailee Steinfeld, who has been rumored to be the star of the next installment. Also finishing out her tour of duty with the Barden Bellas will be screenwriter Kay Cannon, who penned the first two films.
Universal has already set a release date of August 4, 2017, for “Pitch Perfect 3.”
Banks will next appear on screen in the final “Hunger Games” movie; “Mockingjay — Part 2” opens November 14. She is currently attached to direct a “Charlie’s Angels” reboot and the YA dystopian fantasy “Red Queen.”
