Elizabeth Olsen portrayed an Instagram influencer in “Ingrid Goes West” and her next project will see her become a social media star in her own right — sort of. The Hollywood Reporter confirms Olsen will topline a half-hour dramedy series for Facebook’s Watch platform. The “Martha Marcy May Marlene” actress will also exec produce.
Kit Steinkellner (“Z: The Beginning of Everything”) created and wrote the as-yet untitled project, which has received a 10-episode order. Lizzy Weiss (“Switched at Birth”) is attached as showrunner. The series’ plot details are being kept under wraps.
“I couldn’t be prouder of the group we have brought together for this show,” Olsen commented. “Kit’s story has been near and dear to me for years and I can’t wait to share our dark, funny, and complicated show with the world.”
Watch was launched in August 2017. Among its offerings is “Loosely Exactly Nicole,” starring comedian Nicole Byer. The semi-autobiographical comedy began on MTV and, after being cancelled, was picked up by Facebook last summer. Season 2 of “Loosely Exactly Nicole” premiered on Watch in December.
Olsen was nominated for a Film Independent Spirit Award in 2012 for “Martha Marcy May Marlene,” her breakout. She played a young woman re-acclimating to the world after escaping a cult in the drama. “Very Good Girls,” “Wind River,” and the Marvel film franchise are among her screen credits. Next, Olsen will reprise her role as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch in “Avengers: Infinity War,” out May 4.
Steinkellner is a playwright, blogger, and comics writer as well as a screenwriter. Her plays include “Jungle La La” and “Ladies,” and her first graphic novel, “Quince,” hits shelves this fall.
