After being the best thing about last year’s “Edge of Tomorrow” and “Into the Woods,” Emily Blunt finally gets a leading role of her own in “Bronco Belle,” a rodeo drama about a determined bull-riding champion.
Blunt’s character, Raylene Jackson, is described as a “stubborn but vulnerable” competitor intent on climbing to the top of the bull-riding world — and who isn’t going to let a few broken bones get in her way.
Writer-director Khurram Longi commented, “For me this is a female Rocky-on-a-bull type of film. I thought it was a great hook. After seeing Emily in ‘Edge of Tomorrow,’ I thought she would be perfect so had her in my mind as I was writing it.”
Shooting will commence this fall.
Blunt will next appear at Cannes in the cartel drama “Sicario” and co-star in next summer’s “The Huntsman.”
