Emma Dumont to Topline “Razor” Adaptation

Dumont in "The Gifted"

Emma Dumont is about to gain a whole new set of superpowers. Best known for playing Polaris on Fox’s “X-Men”-inspired series “The Gifted,” the actress has signed on to star in an adaptation of “Razor,” Deadline confirms. The film is based on the best-selling comic book series of the same name and sees Dumont playing Nicole Mitchell, aka Razor.

At the age of 10, Nicole witnessed her father’s murder at the hands of a gang. “The trauma lands her in a sanitarium for a decade in which time she develops a complex plan of revenge on the murderers,” the source summarizes. “In the comics, Nicole, in an effort to rid the evil in Chinatown, becomes the superheroine Razor, characterized by her suit which is equipped with razors on her arms.”

Rob Cohen (“The Fast and the Furious”) will write and direct. Anna Wang (“Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 2”) is among the project’s producers.

“Emma is a renaissance woman,” said Cohen. “She’s a wonderful actress, a professional ballet dancer, and is currently getting her degree in Robotics Engineering. I have her training in Krav Maga and, believe me, there is nothing she can’t do.”

Dumont will reprise her role as Polaris for Season 2 of “The Gifted,” set to premiere this fall. “Aquarius,” “T@gged,” and “Bunheads” are among her previous credits.

Other female-led superhero pics in the works include Brie Larson-starrer “Captain Marvel,” “Painkiller Jane” with Jessica Chastain, and the eagerly-awaited “Wonder Woman” sequel “Wonder Woman 1984,” which re-teams Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins.
