Erin Moriarty and Danika Yarosh have been cast in the upcoming volleyball film “Live Like Line,” Deadline reports, with Helen Hunt playing their coach.
Moriarty played Woody Harrelson’s teen daughter on Season 1 of HBO’s “True Detective,” and Yarosh will be seen in Tom Cruise’s upcoming film “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back.”
Based on a true story, the film, according to Deadline, “chronicles Iowa City’s West High School girls volleyball team and its improbable run to the state championship under the guidance of their tough-love coach Kathy Bresnahan (Helen Hunt). After the death of their star player Caroline ‘Line’ Found (Yarosh), Kelly (Moriarty) must move past the loss of her best friend and fill Caroline’s role as team captain and playmaker.”
Classic female-centric sports films include “A League of Their Own,” “Bring It On,” and “Bend It Like Beckham.”
“We are thrilled to have both Erin and Danika on board to portray this resilient team of female athletes,” said financier LD Entertainment’s Mickey Liddell. “These young women truly have what it takes to help us tell this story of hope and optimism overcoming tragedy.”
Moriarty has also appeared on Netflix’s “Jessica Jones” and the Sundance indie “The Kings of Summer.” She can also be seen in the upcoming comedy “The Watch,” and the Cannes feature “Blood Father.”
Yarosh recently appeared in NBC’s “Heroes: Reborn” and had a recurring role on Showtime’s “Shameless.” She is also a dancer who has appeared on stage in “Billy Elliot: The Musical.”
