Eva Husson’s Teen Sex Drama ‘Bang Gang (A Modern Love Story)’ Gets U.S. Distribution

Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired North American rights for “Bang Gang (A Modern Love Story),” Eva Husson’s feature directorial debut. The company bought the rights from Films Distribution. The sexually explicit drama made its North American debut at TIFF 2015.

Husson wrote the script for the coming-of-age story about a group of teens who organize orgies in the midst of dealing with more conventional high school drama — arguments with friends, poor communication with parents and unrequited romantic feelings.

The French filmmaker told Women and Hollywood that the plot was inspired by a news item she read in the late 90’s. Husson explained, “This account of drifting into a collective, sexual sort of madness kept resonating with me, even years later. It’s not so much the sexual side that interested me — having to face that was actually quite terrifying too, but I was really curious to understand how these young people, without any particular predisposition for this type of behavior, had been able to go so far. The people involved reminded me of the group I belonged to when I was a teenager: the same type of small, provincial town, the same middle-class social background, etc.”

“Releasing foreign language movies in the U.S. is always a challenge, but ‘Bang Gang (A Modern Love Story)’ is a cinematic experience that the American audience is not used to, and I believe that Samuel Goldwyn Films has understood this from the first screening of the movie at TIFF,” said Nicolas Brigaud-Robert of Films Distribution.

Husson commented, “I went to film school in Los Angeles at AFI so I am proud to come back to what I consider my other home, the U.S., with my first feature film. It’s an honor for me that Samuel Goldwyn Films will be showing my movie to audiences across America.”

A limited theatrical release for “Bang Gang (A Modern Love Story)” is planned in late spring 2016.
