Eva Longoria Has Two Women-Penned Drama Series in Development at Fox

Longoria on “Conan”

Eva Longoria has new series in the works. According to Deadline, the multi-hyphenate has two hour-long dramas in development at Fox through her UnbeliEVAble Entertainment banner. Both are written by women.

Currently untitled, one project centers on four female friends in LA. Emily Fox (“Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce”) penned the script, and both she and Longoria are among the show’s exec producers. The series’ protagonists are professionally successful but find their lives lacking. “They all enjoy the many perks of their high-flying lifestyles — but there’s no such thing as having it all, at least not all at the same time. Each of them has made significant sacrifices to get where they are,” the source summarizes. “When a face from their past resurfaces in the pilot, they have to confront some ugly buried secrets and protect their lives from being destroyed.”

“Hindsight,” “A Series of Unfortunate Events,” and “Jane by Design” are among Fox’s writing credits. She also served as showrunner on “Girlfriends’ Guide.”

Longoria’s other project, “Sidekicks,” is written by Tracy McMillan (“Good Girls Revolt”) and received a script commitment plus penalty. It sees an ambitious young female detective working with a paroled criminal informant while on the job. Said informant is her father. “While Benny Kendricks quickly becomes a secret weapon solving cases, he also shakes up [his daughter’s] emotional life, pushing her to reconcile with the past — and the feelings — she’d rather avoid,” Deadline details.

McMillan has previously written for “Satisfaction,” “Mad Men,” and “United States of Tara.” She’s also penned three books: memoir “I Love You and I’m Leaving You Anyway,” novel “Multiple Listings,” and relationship guide “Why You’re Not Married… Yet.”

Longoria has produced “Devious Maids,” “Telenovela,” and “Mother Up!” among other projects. Next, the “Desperate Housewives” alumna is teaming up with Kerry Washington on the workplace comedy film “24–7.” Both Longoria and Washington will produce and star, and Sarah Rothschild (“Love, Unscripted”) is writing. On the acting side, Longoria has three films in post-production: buddy comedy “All-Star Weekend,” an ensemble about dog lovers called “Dog Days,” and the gender-swapped remake of “Overboard.” The latter hits theaters April 20.
