Since the end of Desperate Housewives, Eva Longoria has reinvented herself as a producer, especially of projects with Latino leads.
Longoria’s biggest producing hit is Lifetime’s semi-controversial Devious Maids, which the actress boasts as “the first show to ever have five Latina leads in television.” She is also the executive producer of and lead voice actress in the animated Canadian sitcom Mother Up!, which focuses on a bad mom’s parenting pitfalls.
Now Longoria is delivering her most promising-sounding project to date: a family drama about two Latino brothers who are rival politicians. The series is loosely based on twins Julián and Joaquin Castro, the former mayor of San Antonio and a newly elected Texas Congressman, respectively.
Written and created by Nashville writers Meredith Lavender and Marcie Ulin, Pair of Aces has signed a put-pilot deal with ABC. The series will frame the central brothers, “Latino golden boys,” as “best friends and rivals.” Engineering their rise in politics is their behind-the-scenes mother Maria, who is determined to make her family one of America’s foremost political dynasties.
