Eva Longoria is headed back to the small screen to topline “Type-A,” a Fox comedy pilot. According to Deadline, the single-camera project follows “a group of consultants hand-picked to do the dirty work most professionals can’t handle: layoffs, downsizing, generally delivering horrible news. To everyone else, they’re the enemy — to one another, they’re family.”
The “Desperate Housewives” alumna will play Axler, an “ambitious, brutally honest consultant who is at war with her inner ‘nice girl.’”
The project hails from Lesley Wake-Webster (“New Girl”) and Jason Winer (“Modern Family”). The former penned the pilot, while the latter will direct. Both will serve as executive producers.
It’s only fitting that Longoria take the lead in a project titled “Type-A” — she seems like the kind of woman who would proudly self-identity as a Type-A personality. Best known as a Golden Globe-nominated actress, Longoria has found the time to launch UnbeliEVAble Entertainment, a production company with a first-look deal with Universal Pictures, direct episodes of TV series such as “Jane the Virgin,” work towards equality as a political activist, and complete her master’s degree in Chicano Studies from California State University, Northridge. Her amazing-sounding thesis is entitled, “Success STEMS From Diversity: The Value of Latinas in STEM Careers.”
“People tend to put women in boxes: She’s sexy, she’s ambitious, she’s smart, she’s a mom … but [real] women are complex, and we are always underestimated,” Longoria has said. “Women are all of those things at the same time.” Her wonderfully diverse resume is a testament to that.
“Fox and 20th TV have been high on Longoria, courting her for multiple projects,” Deadline reports. She’ll guest star this spring on Fox’s “Empire.” Her recent acting credits include “Devious Maids,” “Telenovela,” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” and she served as an exec producer on the former two series.
