Exclusive: A Mother Needs Her Daughter to Grow Up in “Gold Star” Clip

“Gold Star”

“I know none of this is fair to you, Vic, but I need you home,” a mother says to her 20-something daughter in our exclusive clip of “Gold Star.” Deanne (Catherine Curtin, “Insecure,” “Orange Is the New Black”) is not so much asking as gently telling Vicki (Victoria Negri, “Runners”) that she needs to step up. Her father has suffered a debilitating stroke and requires a caregiver.

Insurance is giving Deanne a hard time about wanting a nurse and she needs to go to work. “They want me to just put your father in a home and I’m not doing that,” she tells Vicki. “He deserves better. Someone needs to be with him all the time. He can’t be alone.” So it’s time for Vicki, a music school dropout, to take charge.

“Gold Star” is written and directed by Negri and marks her directing debut. The drama is based on her own experiences.

Check out the clip to see Vicki’s reaction to her mother’s wishes. You can catch “Gold Star” in theaters and on VOD November 10.
