Betty (Reid Asselstine) is starting her shift as a security officer at Wexford Plaza when she notices something strange on the security booth’s computer. A coworker took one of Betty’s private selfies and set it as the desktop image.
After trying unsuccessfully to take the picture down, Betty confronts her colleagues. “I get it, you think you’re being funny,” Betty says as her fellow security guards snicker. “You think this is hilarious to have some big ol’ titties on the computer. Ha ha, funny! Look at Betty! It’s not.”
Like so many women who face this type of abuse, she hits a wall when she tries to fight back. “There’s a picture of you?” her coworker infuriatingly asks in mock disbelief.
Written and directed by Joyce Wong (“Souvenirs from Asia”), “Wexford Plaza” follows Betty, who leads a fairly isolated existence until she makes an unexpected connection with a make-up salesman. The film, Wong’s feature directorial debut, has screened at several festivals including Slamdance and Bentonville. “Wexford Plaza” will begin a theatrical run in LA tomorrow, October 27.
