Exclusive: A Teen Dreams of Transforming Her Life in Clip of Berlinale Pic “Goldie”

"Goldie"

A young woman enters a clothing store with a simple mission in our exclusive clip of “Goldie”: she just wants to show her two sisters a coat. The owner is unimpressed. She doesn’t have the cash to pay for it, so he demands that the trio leave.  But after seeing her younger siblings’ enthusiasm, his resolve falters. She can show them the coat. And she can try it on.

Set to premiere in the Generation 14Plus strand of the Berlinale, the drama tells the story of Goldie, a precocious teen living in a family shelter. The girls’ mother has been arrested, and if Goldie doesn’t find a way to take care of her younger sisters, child services will separate them. Goldie hopes the coat will prevent that from happening.

“This will work, for sure,” she says, admiring herself in the mirror. An aspiring dancer, Goldie believes the coat is just what she needs to transform herself. She’s prepping for a potential career opportunity — appearing in a music video — and if she gets the gig it’ll launch her career and pay her enough to support her family.

Check out the clip to see Goldie receiving a phone call about her audition.

Directed by Sam de Jong (“Prince), “Goldie” premieres February 10 at the Berlin International Film Festival.
