ShortsHD, the world’s only television channel dedicated to short films, is launching a month-long programming special dedicated to films created, written and directed by women.
“Films By Her” kicks off on November 14 with Mandy Fabian’s “Somebody’s Mother,” starring Sharon Lawrence (“Rizzoli & Isles,” “NYPD Blue”) as an oversharing, boundary-crossing mom who invites her new boyfriend along to Christmas festivities at the home of her perfectionist daughter (Christine Lakin, “Family Guy,” “Melissa & Joey”), much to the host’s dismay.
ShortsHD’s Spotlight film this month is Lisa Robertson’s “Commerce,” a psychological drama about a marriage crumbling under the weight of the businessman husband’s secrets and compulsions. Annabeth Gish (“Sons of Anarchy,” “Pretty Little Liars”) and Joel Gretsch (“NCIS”) star.
The television channel will also air a special highlighting AFI’s Directors Workshop for Women, a spotlight on director and producer Suzi Yoonessi (“Dear Lemon Lima”) and a showcase of “Suffragette” director Sarah Gavron’s favorite shorts, which she will introduce.
