Fall 2013 Preview – The Women

null

Entertainment Weekly released its annual Fall Preview issue and so we thought it was time to do an overview of the women directed and women centric movies coming out over the next several months.  The early part of fall looks very promising with a bunch of films coming off the festival circuit — like Concussion, Wadjda and After Tiller — that will be released in theatres and VOD.

We are very much looking forward to Nicole Holofcener’s latest film Enough Said with Julia Louis-Dreyfus and James Gandolfini. While this is still clearly an indie, this feels like a bigger film and more high profile for Holofcener.  Another important release is Black Nativity from Kasi Lemmons.

You will note that as more “Oscar hopefuls” roll out later in the year, the amount of women directed films diminishes, in fact we currently have no women directed films slated to open in December.

On the women centric front we will get the second installment of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and the latest from Meryl Streep, August: Osage County where she plays mother to Julia Roberts as well as films from Judi Dench and Emma Thompson.
