Felicity Jones & Shailene Woodley to Topline Augustine Frizzell’s “The Last Letter From Your Lover”

High-profile leading ladies have been cast for Augustine Frizzell’s latest. Back in August it was announced that the “Euphoria” director would helm a feature adaptation of “The Last Letter From Your Lover,” an international bestseller from “Me Before You” author Jojo Moyes. Now word comes from Deadline that Felicity Jones and Shailene Woodley will topline the romance.

Set to begin shooting next week, the pic follows Ellie (Jones), “a young female journalist in contemporary London who uncovers a series of love letters in the archives which tell the story of an intensely romantic but star-crossed affair in the 1960s between Jennifer Stirling (Woodley) and Anthony O’Hare (Callum Turner),” the source details. “As Ellie is drawn into the story, she becomes obsessed with discovering the lovers’ identities and finding out how their love story ends.”

“The Last Letter From Your Lover” hails from Blueprint Pictures, The Film Farm, and Studiocanal. Jones and Woodley are among the project’s exec producers.

Jones received an Oscar nod for “The Theory of Everything.” “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and “A Monster Calls” are among her other credits. You can catch her next in “The Aeronauts,” an adventure story that sees her playing a daredevil pilot.

Woodley received an Emmy nod for “Big Little Lies.” Her other credits include the “Divergent” franchise, “The Fault in Our Stars,” and “The Secret Life of the American Teenager.” Among her upcoming projects is “Misanthrope,” a drama about a cop tasked with tracking down a murderer.

Frizzell made her feature directorial debut with 2018’s “Never Goin’ Back,” a Texas-set comedy about BFFs who dream of taking time off from their serving jobs to go to a beach. She went on to helm the pilot of HBO teen drama “Euphoria” and eps of Starz’s restaurant drama “Sweetbitter,” among other projects. Last year she signed on to direct Ryan Reynolds-starrer “Stoned Alone,” a stoner comedy inspired by “Home Alone.”

“Surround yourself with supportive people who respect your vision and will help you achieve it,” Frizzell urged when we asked her advice for other women directors. “Filmmaking is a team effort and if you have teammates who think that because you’re a woman, every decision you make needs to be double checked or second guessed, then you’re going to be butting heads the whole time and the end product will suffer.”
