The stories of 10 female Obama White House staffers will serve as the basis for an ABC drama. According to Variety, the network is developing a women-driven, D.C.-set political series based on the essay collection “Yes She Can: 10 Stories of Hope & Change from Young Female Staffers of the Obama White House.”
Veronica West (“State of Affairs”) is writing and executive producing the project. ABC Studios will produce.
Published earlier this year, “Yes She Can” showcases stories by Molly Dillon (Policy Advisor for Urban Affairs, Justice and Opportunity); Eleanor Celeste (Assistant Director for Biomedical and Forensic Sciences); Vivian Graubard (Senior Advisor and Cofounder of the United States Digital Service); Jenna Brayton (Associate Director of Content and Operations for the Office of Digital Strategy); Taylor Lustig (Policy Advisor for the Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships); Andrea R. Flores (Policy Assistant for Immigration and Rural Affairs); Kalisha Dessources Figures (Policy Advisor to the White House Council on Women and Girls); Noemie Levy (Senior Policy Advisor for partnerships in the Office of Science and Technology Policy); Nita Contreras (Assistant Staff Secretary); and Jaimie Woo (Policy Analyst in the Office of the Vice President).
Dillon compiled the book.
West created the upcoming Zoë Kravitz-led “High Fidelity” reboot with Sarah Kucserka. The project was originally ordered to series at Disney+ last fall, but has since moved to Hulu. “Brothers & Sisters,” “Hart of Dixie,” and “Chicago Fire,” are among her other credits.
