Field of Vision has announced a new initiative dedicated to bolstering the documentary community in the midst of COVID-19. Described as a “filmmaker-driven documentary unit that commissions and creates original short-form nonfiction films about developing and ongoing stories around the globe,” Field of Vision will be offering virtual office hours to make themselves available to filmmakers. “We understand that the industry is experiencing a lot of upheaval, and that this is a particularly difficult time for freelancers and people working independently,” their website reads.
Every weekday until Friday, May 1 the Field of Vision team have committed to having video meetings and calls, and that time frame may be extended depending on circumstances. “We’ll be prioritizing filmmakers who’ve been affected by festival postponements and production changes, but will also be available to offer a range of mentorship and consultation around a variety of areas,” the site explains.
Field of Vision was inspired by “Seahorse” director Jeanie Finlay, who has dedicated her time to mentoring after her upcoming film shoot was cancelled.
“We are a small team and will try our best to make ourselves available to as many filmmakers and producers as possible. If any other members of our community would also like to donate their time, we are happy to facilitate this as well, so please feel free to reach out to us,” Field of Vision notes.
The initiative is not just open to filmmakers wanting to submit work for Field of Vision to review, or filmmakers they’ve worked with previously. “If you feel you would benefit from time with our team on any project you’re working on please feel free to reach out,” the team emphasizes.
