Film Fatales Launches First International Digital Film Market for Womxn, Will Run Alongside Berlinale

Iram Parveen Bilal’s "I'll Meet You There" will be featured at the event: Level Forward

The first-ever international digital film market for womxn is set to take place alongside the 2021 Berlinale’s European Film Market. A joint initiative from Film Fatales and Cinemarket, The Digital Film Market for Womxn is intended to “highlight and encourage diverse and positive representation of Womxn (Women, Transgender, and Non Binary Filmmakers) in screen-based media worldwide,” according to a press release announcing the market.

The Digital Film Market for Womxn is slated to take place March 1-5 and is “dedicated to members and content from Film Fatales.” The market, which will include public events, promises to amplify “feature films directed by members of Film Fatales throughout this time period, culminating in a live pitch event on March 5th for an industry jury from Kickstarter, Condé Nast, Encore Inflight, and more.”

The release details, “Curated films from the Film Fatales network are offered on Cinemarket and selected buyers can make offers for film rights. On Friday March 5th, a selection of five films will be pitched during an industry-focused event to an expert panel and an audience of accredited buyers.”

Iram Parveen Bilal’s “I’ll Meet You There” and Yi Chen’s “First Vote” are among the curated films set to be featured at the event. The former is a portrait of a Pakistani Muslim family in Chicago keeping secrets from one another and the latter sees Chinese Americans with dramatically different perspectives weighing in on immigration, voting rights, and racial justice.

“Film Fatales is dedicated to enhancing the international visibility of women, non-binary, and transgender feature film directors of all backgrounds by expanding professional development and global networking opportunities. We are launching the world’s first all-digital international film market for underrepresented communities to expand their reach by giving them access to international buyers,” said Leah Meyerhoff, Founder of Film Fatales.

Cinemarket’s VP of Partnerships, Jordan Mattos, added, “Cinemarket’s aim is to offer a practical solution to an assertive base of creators ready to engage the international market on their own terms, with or without representation, and in spite of challenges brought on by the pandemic.”
