The Alliance for Women Film Composers has launched a helpful and important new resource: an online directory of women composers working in film, television, video games and media.
The first of its kind, the Online Female Composer Directory will help direct the spotlight on female composers, a demographic sorely underrepresented behind the scenes. Women accounted for a mere one percent of all composers working on the top 250 films of 2014.
“This directory is crucial because no longer can a director or producer or any person in a position to hire a composer, select a panel, etc. claim that there are no women composers that are qualified to do the job,” Laura Karpman, President of the AWFC, told Women and Hollywood. She added, “We are here, we are working, and we need to be visible.”
The AWFC is encouraging women composers to register on their site. Check out the directory now.
