Production has begun on the first film to come out of Oscar winner Alicia Vikander’s new company Vikarious Productions.
“Euphoria,” the English-language directorial debut of Swedish writer and director Lisa Langseth, stars Vikander, Eva Green, and Charlotte Rampling. Filming is taking place in Bavaria and Munich.
The story, the short synopsis says, follows Ines (Vikander) and Emilie (Green), “two sisters meeting up again after many years apart and the profound journey that they undertake together.”
Vikander has previously said of Langseth, “I have worked with her [previously] and I jumped at the chance to do so again. It’s a uniquely European approach, enabling me to work with a great Swedish team alongside my colleagues in London.”
Langseth added, “This story and these characters have been a part of me for a long time now and it is wonderful to see it all come to life.”
Vikander described the film as “a profound story about the journey of two estranged sisters, full of suffering but also full of joy, and squaring up to very important subject matter. It also has compelling female voices and is packed to the rafters with female talent both sides of the camera. All these ingredients made this film the obvious choice for our first film at Vikarious.”
Vikander can next be seen in “The Light Between the Oceans,” opening September 2. Green’s next appearance will be in “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children,” out September 30.
