Frances McDormand has a promising new gig. The Oscar winner will star in an upcoming film dealing with murder, racial tension and police brutality that’s provisionally titled “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.”
The film’s writer, Martin McDonagh, told The Guardian that the script is “about a 50-year-old woman whose daughter is murdered and she goes to war with the police in her hometown, because she thinks they are more interested in torturing black people than getting justice.”
We’re always happy to see movies with actresses over 40, especially in leading roles, but this drama is particularly intriguing given its timeliness, what with the surging momentum of the Black Lives Matter movement.
McDormand is up for an Emmy next week for portraying “the mortal enemy of whimsy” in the HBO miniseries “Olive Kitteridge.” She’s also currently developing a script, a narrative adaptation of Michael Pollan’s bestselling book” The Omnivore’s Dilemma,” which examines the politics of food. McDormand will star in the project, as well as appear in the upcoming Coen brothers’ movie “Hail, Caesar!”
