From dishing out sex advice in bathroom stalls to immortalizing Catherine and Heathcliff’s love story, “Sex Education” star Emma Mackey takes on the role of an iconic author in “Emily,” Frances O’Connor’s directorial debut. Variety reports that Bleecker Street just landed U.S. rights to the Emily Brontë biopic.
Described as imagining “the transformative, exhilarating, and uplifting journey to womanhood of one of the world’s most famous, enigmatic, and passionate writers,” “Emily” is slated to be released theatrically stateside in 2023. O’Connor penned the script.
Mackey is best known for her role as Maeve in “Sex Education,” which has been renewed for a fourth season by Netflix. She received a BAFTA TV Award nomination for the coming-of-age comedy. She was last seen on the big screen in “Death on the Nile,” and has a supporting role in Greta Gerwig’s upcoming “Barbie” pic.
