2013’s best onscreen love story — which won so many hearts it was that year’s highest-grossing movie worldwide — is headed to Broadway. A stage version of “Frozen” is expected to hit New York in spring 2018.
Two years is a long time to wait to watch “Let It Go” belted out in a theater and see animated sisters Elsa and Anna, voiced by Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell in the film, come to life. You may just get the chance to catch the production before that: A tryout is scheduled for summer 2017, city and venue TBA.
Some of the original team behind the Disney smash hit will reunite for this new iteration of the story, including screenwriter and co-director Jennifer Lee, who will write the book for the musical, and co-songwriter Kristen Anderson-Lopez, who will contribute to writing additional original songs that will get stuck in our heads for years to come.
As for the big-screen future of the “Frozen” franchise, a sequel has been confirmed but a release date hasn’t been made public yet.
