Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Bobby Lopez have already won two Oscars for Best Original Song and scored a third nomination this year for “Frozen II” anthem “Into the Unknown,” but they are showing no signs of slowing down. Per Playbill, the duo have announced they are teaming up with Pulitzer Prize-nominated playwright Amy Herzog (“4000 Miles”) and Marc Platt (“Mary Poppins Returns”) on a movie musical.
“Our next movie musical project is with Marc Platt and it is a musical version of a graphic novel called ‘The Prince and the Dressmaker,’” Anderson-Lopez and Lopez told Playbill.
Written by Jen Wang, “The Prince and the Dressmaker” was published in February 2018. “Set in Paris, the story follows Prince Sebastian, whose parents are scouring the country for a bride for their son,” the source summarizes. “But Sebastian leads a secret life. By night, he dons spectacular dresses and goes out as Lady Crystallia, a Parisian fashion icon. His best friend, dressmaker Frances, is the only one who knows the truth, and she doesn’t want the credit for her creations to be secret anymore.”
Anderson-Lopez, Lopez, and Herzog are adapting the book. Platt is producing. No word on a director yet.
The Lopezes won Oscars for “Frozen’s” “Let It Go” and “Coco’s” Remember Me.” They also landed Grammys for the “Frozen” soundtrack and “Let It Go.” The collaborators brought “Frozen” to Broadway in 2018, for which they received a Tony nomination for Best Original Score.
Anderson-Lopez co-wrote the award-winning “In Transit,” Broadway’s first a cappella musical. “Winnie the Pooh” and “Spies in Disguise” are among her other credits.
