If you can’t get enough of movies like “You’re Next,” “The Strangers,” and “Panic Room,” you’ll want to check out Gabrielle Union’s next project. The “Being Mary Jane” actress will star in and produce “Breaking In,” Variety reports. She’ll play a woman fighting to protect her family in the midst of a home invasion.
Scheduled to begin shooting this July in LA, the pic will be directed by James McTeigue (“V for Vendetta”). Ryan Engle (“Non-Stop”) penned the script based on a pitch from producer Jaime Primak Sullivan (“Jersey Belle”).
Practical Pictures’ Sheila Taylor is among “Breaking In’s” other producers. Executive producers include Primak Sullivan and Valerie Bleth Sharp (“The Wedding Ringer”).
The second half of “Being Mary Jane’s” fourth season is scheduled to premiere on BET July 18. Union executive produces the drama about a TV news anchor. Her other acting credits include both “Think Like a Man” movies, “Bad Boys II,” and “Bring It On.”
Union has spoken out about the sexist and racist treatment she’s experienced in Hollywood, describing “that sense of being hyper-visible or invisible on sets,” zeroed in on or ignored. Union said, “When do you stand up and point out every micro-aggression, and when do you stand down so you’re not the angry black person all the time? It’s tiring,” she explained. “It feels like another job that you’re not getting paid for — that is all encompassing.”
