Gal Gadot has lined up another project for the small screen. The “Wonder Woman” star and her producing partner and husband, Jaron Varsano, are developing a U.S. version of the hit Israeli series “Queens” with Endemol Shine North America and Endemol Shine Israel. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the news.
“Queens,” which will return for a second season next year, airs on the Israeli HOT network. It was the channel’s most-watched series last year. The mob drama centers on the women of the Malka family, who take over the family business when their men are murdered by another organized crime syndicate. Gal Zaid, Ruth Zaid, Dani Rosenberg, and Dror Nobelman created the series.
Gadot and Varsano will executive produce via their newly-launched Pilot Wave company. Gal Zaid and Ruth Zaid are among the other EPs.
“Watching these women make bold decisions, hilarious mistakes, and learn to lean on one another set against a thriller backdrop, gives this show such a unique spirit that we all fell in love with it immediately,” said Endemol Shine North America’s Sharon Levy, who will exec produce. “It’s gratifying to see a series that treats women with a deft complexity, showcasing that our differences are the strengths that unite us.”
“It is rare to find content that conveys characters in such a truthful way, while mirroring society,” Gadot and Varsano observed.
You can see Gadot next in a little movie called “Wonder Woman 1984.” She’s also producing Patty Jenkins’ much-anticipated superheroine sequel, arriving June 5. Her other upcoming projects include a Hedy Lamarr miniseries for Showtime and “Irena Sendler,” a feature about a woman who resists the Nazis and helps save thousands of Jewish children from the Warsaw ghetto. Gadot is starring in and producing both projects.
