Gina Prince-Bythewood Developing Racially Flipped Police-Shooting Drama for Fox

Writer-director Gina Prince-Bythewood is re-teaming with her “Love and Basketball” star Sanaa Lathan on a Fox drama about a black cop who kills a white teen.

Lathan will play an investigator who attempts to discover the truth about what happened while she and her prosecutor partner navigate the “media attention, public debate and social unrest that accompany such a volatile case… before the divided town erupts into a race war,” according to Variety.

Prince-Bythewood, who penned and helmed last year’s exquisite “Beyond the Lights,” will write, direct and executive produce this project. It is being billed as an “event series,” which means that it’s a miniseries that could receive multiple seasons depending on ratings.
