“Girls5eva” Renewed for Season 2 at Peacock

"Girls5eva": Peacock

Sara Bareilles, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Paula Pell, and Busy Phillips are “gonna be famous 5eva ’cause forever’s too short.” The foursome will reteam on a second season of “Girls5eva.” Peacock just renewed the critically acclaimed comedy about a ’90s girl group for another run. Variety confirmed the news.

Created by former “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” scribe Meredith Scardino, “Girls5eva” sees Dawn (Bareilles), Wicki (Goldsberry), Gloria (Pell), and Summer (Phillips) reuniting when a young rapper samples one of their hits. The women decide to give their pop star dreams one last shot, doing things a little differently this time. Rather than singing about being “side pieces for life” and having “tiny butts forever,” the middle-aged group write an empowering anthem about embracing imperfection.

The first season of “Girls5eva” dropped on Peacock May 6. Tina Fey is among the series’ exec producers. She also makes a guest appearance as Dolly Parton in the show’s first season.

“We are so excited to continue ‘Girls5eva’ alongside this incredibly talented group of cast and producers,” said Lisa Katz, president of scripted content for NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “It was hard to miss the immediate fandom that was born after the launch of this series. This aspirational comeback story is filled with heart and friendship, perfectly blended with catchy-songs and humor, and delivered by an exceptionally versatile cast. We look forward to following this group’s journey as they continue to hit just the right notes.”
