“GLOW” Renewed for Fourth and Final Season by Netflix

"GLOW": Ali Goldstein/Netflix

Ruth and Debbie are stepping into the ring for their swan song. Netflix has renewed “GLOW” for a fourth and final season. A press release announced that creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch will return as showrunners, writers, and executive producers.

Inspired by a real female-led wrestling series from the ’80s, “GLOW” sees mostly inexperienced women learning the ropes of professional wrestling, and follows the behind-the-scenes drama between Debbie (Betty Gilpin) and Ruth (Alison Brie), former best friends whose relationship is in crisis after the former discovers the latter had an affair with her husband. The show’s ensemble cast also includes Marc Maron (“Maron”), musician Kate Nash, Britney Young (“Those Who Can’t”), and Ellen Wong (“Dark Matter”), among others.

“GLOW” has earned 15 Emmy nods and won three.

The dramedy’s third season featured Zoya the Destroyer, Liberty Belle, Machu Picchu, and the rest of the “GLOW” gang making their mark on the Vegas strip as headliners at the Fan-Tan Hotel and Casino. Debbie struggled with balancing her responsibilities as the producer and star of the show with motherhood, and Ruth felt stagnant in her personal and professional lives. The season concluded with both women on the cusp of major change, with Debbie committing to building an empire behind the scenes and Ruth committing to pursuing her dreams on-screen.

No word on when to expect “GLOW’s” fourth season to drop.
