“Grace and Frankie” will be sticking together for at least another season. The Jane Fonda-Lily Tomlin Netflix comedy has been renewed for Season 6, Variety confirms. Season 5 drops this Friday, January 18.
The series follows Grace (Fonda) and Frankie (Tomlin), who have no one to turn to but each other when their husbands (Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston) reveal they are gay and in love. “Friends” writer-producer Marta Kauffman created the show with Howard J. Morris (“Sullivan & Son”). “Grace and Frankie’s” sixth season is expected to bow sometime in 2020.
Tomlin has nabbed four best comedy actress Emmy nominations for “Grace and Frankie,” and Fonda has received one.
“Grace and Frankie” is produced by Skydance, which has been making headlines for hiring John Lasseter as its head of animation. Lasseter went on sabbatical from Disney Animation Studios and Pixar amidst sexual harassment allegations in November 2017. He was eventually ousted entirely.
So, should we watch “Grace and Frankie” — or any other Skydance project — at all? A loss of viewership could force Skydance and CEO David Ellison to reconsider their baffling choice to bring Lasseter on. If #MeToo and #TimesUp aren’t reaching Skydance, perhaps a decrease in the bottom line will.
