“Gypsy” Actress Poorna Jagannathan to Topline Pippa Bianco’s Feature Directorial Debut

Jagannathan in “The Night Of”

“Gypsy” and “The Night Of” actress Poorna Jagannathan has been tapped to lead Pippa Bianco’s first feature film. She will portray a mother seeking justice after an explicit video of her teen daughter is spread across town, Variety writes.

The untitled project will be adapted from Bianco’s 2015 award-winning short “Share.” Not many other details are known at the moment, but the source describes Jagannathan’s role as “tough, spirited, and active but relaxed.”

A24 will distribute the project. Carly Hugo, Scott Rudin, Eli Bush, Matt Parker, Tyler Byrne are producing.

Bianco received Cannes’ Cinefondation Award and SXSW’s Special Jury Award for Narrative Short for “Share.” She also directed the documentary short “Picturing Barbara Kruger,” has a story credit on “Bleed for This,” and worked on Leslye Headland’s “Bachelorette” and Vera Farmiga’s “Higher Ground.”

Susan Johnson’s “Carrie Pilby,” “The Blacklist,” “Room 104,” and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” are among Jagannathan’s screen credits.
