Nominations for the 2022 SAG Awards have been announced, with the casts of “Hacks” and Siân Heder’s “CODA” among the actors being recognized.
“CODA,” a coming-of-age pic following a young woman who’s the only hearing member of a Deaf family, received a nod for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.
HBO’s “Hacks,” an intergenerational comedy about comedy, is up for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series, as is “The Great,” Hulu’s satirical look at Catherine the Great’s early years. Meanwhile, Apple TV+’s behind-the-scenes look at daytime TV, “The Morning Show,” and Hulu’s Elisabeth Moss-led dystopian drama “The Handmaid’s Tale,” are nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.
“Hacks” lead Jean Smart landed an Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series nod as well. Her fellow nominees are Elle Fanning (“The Great”), Sandra Oh (“The Chair”), Juno Temple (“Ted Lasso”), and Hannah Waddingham (“Ted Lasso”). Moss and “Morning Show” stars Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon are nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series, as are Jung Ho-yeon (“Squid Game”) and Sarah Snook (“Succession”).
Smart received another nod, for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series, for HBO murder mystery “Mare of Easttown.” She is joined in that category by “Mare” co-star Kate Winslet, Jennifer Coolidge (“The White Lotus”), Cynthia Erivo (“Genius: Aretha”), and Margaret Qualley (“Maid”).
On the movie side, Olivia Colman, Kirsten Dunst, and Ruth Negga are being recognized for their work in some of our favorite films of 2021. Colman is up for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for Maggie Gyllenhaal’s “The Lost Daughter,” while Dunst and Negga are nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role for, respectively, Jane Campion’s “The Power of the Dog” and Rebecca Hall’s “Passing.”
The Female Actor in a Leading Role category is rounded out by Lady Gaga (“House of Gucci”), Jessica Chastain (“The Eyes of Tammy Faye”), Jennifer Hudson (“Respect”), and Nicole Kidman (“Being the Ricardos”). Caitríona Balfe (“Belfast”), Cate Blanchett (“Nightmare Alley”), and Ariana DeBose (“West Side Story”), join Dunst and Negga in the Female Actor in a Supporting Role race.
Marvel blockbuster “Black Widow” received a nomination for Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture, and “Mare of Easttown” landed a nod for Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Television Series.
