Haley Bennett-Starrer “Swallow” Goes to IFC

"Swallow"

IFC has snagged U.S. rights to “Swallow,” a horror pic led by “The Girl on the Train’s” Haley Bennett. Variety broke the news.

“Swallow” tells the story of a pregnant woman (Bennett) who “compulsively begins to eat dangerous objects. As her husband (Austin Stowell) and his family exert more control over her life, she is forced to confront the dark secret behind her uncontrollable obsession,” the source details. “The film is about more than scares. It poses questions about the pressures imposed on women by a patriarchal culture, as well as the limits placed on women’s control over their own bodies.”

The film premiered at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, where Bennett was named best actress. When she was asked what she hopes young women take away from “Swallow,” she said, “It’s okay to not be perfect, and it’s okay to screw up and mess up, and it’s okay to live your life on your terms, and it’s okay to marry the wrong person, and it’s okay to let your life get really messy. And it doesn’t matter because you will learn lessons and grow from even the most devastating interactions.”

A theatrical release is being planned for 2020.
