Hannah Marks is set to explore the imminent future. The actress and filmmaker has a futuristic comedic drama about four 20-something female friends in development at The CW. Deadline broke the news.
Written by Marks, the untitled project “explores classic coming-of-age themes like love, friendship, identity, and sexuality, all through a futuristic high-tech lens.” Marks is also co-executive producing the CBS Television Studios project.
Also among the exec producers are “No Tomorrow” creator Corinne Brinkerhoff, Tiffany Grant, and Ben Stiller. The former two will EP via their Green Ribbon company.
Probably best known for her work on-screen, Marks has appeared in nearly 50 projects, including “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, ” “You’re the Worst,” and “Awkward.” You can see her next in “Daniel Isn’t Real,” a thriller centered on college student and his recently returned imaginary friend out December 6.
Marks made her feature directorial debut with 2018’s “After Everything,” a romantic comedy-drama about a young couple who commit to each other quickly when one partner receives a cancer diagnosis. She’s attached to helm features “The Swimsuit Issue” and “Turtles All The Way Down.” The former sees a high schooler creating his own swimsuit issue to raise money for summer camp, and the latter is an adaptation of John Green’s YA bestseller.
