Three female-led comedies from women have received pilot orders in recent days. We’re one step closer to seeing Patricia Heaton-starrer “Carol’s Second Act,” an untitled semi-autobiographical story from “New Girl’s” Hannah Simone, and a comedy about female mechanics.
Penned by “Trophy Wife” creators Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskins, “Second Act” scored a formal pilot order from CBS, Deadline reports. Starring and executive produced by “The Middle” and “Everybody Loves Raymond” alumna Heaton, the multi-camera comedy tells the story of Carol Chambers, who decides to become a doctor after retiring from teaching.
Halpern and Haskins are also among the project’s exec producers.
ABC ordered Simone’s pilot, which is inspired by her non-traditional Indian family. The single-camera comedy centers on Hannah (Simone) “and her Indian-American immigrant father. They always have been close, but after she admits to herself that she’s in a dead-end job and he reveals his marriage is over, they’re starting over together and each finding a new path. This new chapter will either make them crazy close — or just crazy,” Deadline summarizes.
Simone is co-writing and exec producing the project, which has yet to be named.
Fox, meanwhile, has given a green light to “Patty’s Auto,” a pilot from “The Big C” creator Darlene Hunt. Penned by Hunt and based on a real auto repair shop in Pennsylvania with all female mechanics, the multi-camera camera ensemble comedy follows Patty and the women who work for her. Deadline confirmed the pilot order, but no word on who will star just yet.
Exec producers on “Patty’s Auto” include Hunt, who recently served as co-exec producer on the “Rosanne” revival, and “Pitch Perfect 2” actress, producer, and helmer Elizabeth Banks of Brownstone Productions.
