Heather Graham to Write, Direct, and Star in Her Own Movie

Heather Graham made headlines a couple of days ago (on industry news sites, anyway) when she departed a Neil LaBute play three days after a press meet-and-greet.

Buried in that story, though, is that Graham left that production, in which she was cast as a Hollywood has-been willing to degrade herself for another chance at fame, to make her directorial debut. Graham wrote the relationship-oriented comedy Half Magic as a vehicle for herself. It’s hard to fault her for pursuing her own vision when the film industry has never seen her as anything other than a sexpot or, now more frequently, an aging sexpot desperately clinging to her youth.

In an interview with Collider last year, Graham described Half Magic as “a comedy about these female friends and sexuality and about people having a sense of shame about sexuality and learning how to have a healthier attitude about it. But it’s a comedy, so it’s very light. It also deals with male/female relationships and sexism.”

According to Deadline, “all the pieces for the film finally came together” for Graham to make her film. Good luck to her!
