Get your applications ready, women screenwriters! The application period for Hedgebrook’s 2nd annual Screenwriters Lab is now open.
Hedgebrook’s Screenwriters Lab is one of multiple programs that the literary nonprofit offers female writers. Started in 1988, Hedgebrook “supports the work of visionary women writers whose stories and ideas shape our culture now and for generations to come.”
The screenwriters Lab specifically will support five screenwriters over the course of a week long residency and will include two mentors from the film industry. Last year’s mentors were Jane Anderson (“Olive Kitteridge”) and Jenny Bicks (“The Big C,” “Sex and the City”). The program is held on a retreat on Whidbey Island, Washington.
Through the program, Hedgebrook aims to “support the creative process of a diverse group of screenwriters, and build a community that harnesses the power of film as a storytelling medium to change the cultural conversation.”
The two mentors for the 2016 program will be announced soon, along with updates from the 2015 attendees, which included Ingrid Veninger, Caroline Ryder, Allison Lee, Lauren Goodman, and Stephanie Cavagnuolo.
The deadline to submit applications is June 16, 2016.
