Hedgebrook’s Screenwriters Lab Now Accepting Applications

Hedgebrook Screenwriters Lab

If you’re dreaming of writing for the big screen, take note: Hedgebrook’s third annual Screenwriters Lab is now accepting applications. Selected screenwriters will be in residence for ten days and participate in workshops and one-on-one sessions with mentors. “Wakefield” writer-director Robin Swicord is among this year’s advisors. The lab is set to take place this December.

Writers will come to the workshop with a draft of the screenplay they’ll be working on. Scripts on all topics and across all genres of narrative fiction — including but not limited to drama, comedy, and horror — are welcome. Note that TV scripts, shorts, and docs won’t be considered.

Located on Washington’s Whidbey Island, Hedgebrook’s “mission is to support visionary women writers whose stories and ideas shape our culture now and for generations to come,” the non-profit org’s site details. “For more than 25 years Hedgebrook has supported fully-funded residencies for writers representing diversity in citizenship status, nationality, current place of residence, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender expression, trans* identity, age, disability, professional experience, and economic resources.”

The deadline to apply for the lab is June 2, and the cost is $40. For more details and requirements, head over to Hedgebrook’s site.

Check out a video testimonial from the lab’s 2016 participants below. “The themes that I’m writing about are so much larger than myself,” says screenwriter Jessica Chou.
