Helen McCrory to Star in Six-Part Political Thriller

Helen McCrory in “Peaky Blinders”: BBC

Helen McCrory has signed on to star in “Fearless,” a six-part series from “Homeland” writer and EP Patrick Harbinson. The project is being produced by Mammoth Screen for ITV and is scheduled to begin filming in September.

The “Peaky Blinders” star will play solicitor Emma Blunt in the legal thriller. Blunt has a reputation for taking on cases that seem like lost causes. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series will center around Blunt’s controversial take on a case — and the consequences of her hunt for the truth: she “suspects a man convicted for killing a schoolgirl was wrongfully imprisoned and is forced to battle dark forces from within the police and intelligence services.”

McCrory’s previous credits include “Skyfall,” the “Harry Potter” franchise, “Hugo,” and “The Queen,”

“When l was at drama school, l was inspired by ‘Prime Suspect,’ watching as Britain led the way in creating strong female characters to lead their dramas,” said McCrory. “l’m thrilled to be leading ITV’s new drama — it’s a thriller that starts deceptively small, then begins crossing borders to different cultures and continents.”

“Prime Suspect” starred Helen Mirren as a British police officer. Her character, Jane Tennison, is the inspiration for “Tennison,” a new series from ITV. Stefanie Martini (“Doctor Thorne”) will play a young Tennison in the six-part series.
