Hollywood Feminists Fire Back at Mike Huckabee’s “Gender Victim” Comments

Who the hell knows what Mike Huckabee meant when he claimed that Republicans want to “empower [women] to be something other than victims of their gender” at a Republican National Committee event?

His brief incoherence aside, Huckabee’s overall message to his party was clear: women should stop having sex. He attacked the Democrats for “insulting” American women by “making them believe they are helpless without ‘Uncle Sugar’ coming in and providing for them a prescription each month for birth control, because they cannot control their libido or their reproductive system without the help of the government.” Thus, in one unhinged, imbecilic sentence, he describes women — the group he purports to want to “empower” — as easily brainwashed and unable to say no to sex.

Married women comprise the vast majority — around 77% — of contraception users, so I guess according to Huckabee, no woman should have sex unless she is actively trying to get pregnant. (Ew, and also, how sad.)

Well, a bunch of our favorite female celebs decided to take this opportunity to tell Huckabee that he should shut the fuck up.

Shonda Rhimes: “I want Mike Huckabee to wake up tomorrow having suddenly grown a vagina. Then I wanna deny his vagina proper medical care and birth control while making crazy statements about his libido. And see how he likes it.

Sarah Silverman: “It’s total hypocrisy. I mean, these are people who are anti-big government. And yet they want to make laws about my vagina and what I do with my body. I don’t think that would be tolerated if we started legislating men’s bodies.”

Lizz Winstead: “We have to stop feeding into this narrative that it’s somehow awful to be a sexual being.”

Huckabee replied to Rhimes, stating, “Ms. Rhimes’ comment seems to be directed at the misquotations of my speech which were made by certain members of the media. Even they were forced to admit they got it wrong and had to issue a correction. Maybe Ms. Rhimes will issue a correction as well. As a strong and powerful woman, I believe Ms. Rhimes would agree that women are not helpless, and they have the capacity to manage their lives without the intervention of big government. The real scandal is the fact that Democrats continue to portray the women of America as helpless victims of gender who need government assistance in order to manage their reproductive systems. I think far more highly of women than that.”

So he’s definitely not backing down from equating “strength” with celibacy and from claiming that women are being “helpless victims of gender” when they want to have sex for non-procreative purposes.

Frankly, I’d be okay totally with idiots like Huckabee and his creepy, patronizing pals continuing to be honest about their ridiculous and beliefs. It’d be the best way to ensure a Democrat in the White House for the next several decades until this generation of Neanderthals dies off.
