Teen star Bella Thorne (“Scream”) is headed to Freeform to top-line “Famous in Love,” a new series from I. Marlene King. The project has been ordered to series. King already has a long-running show at the network, formerly known as ABC Family: she debuted high school drama “Pretty Little Liars” back in 2010 and still serves as showrunner.
“Famous in Love” is based on Rebecca Serle’s 2014 YA novel of the same name. Thorne will play Paige, an average college student who lands a starring role in a Hollywood blockbuster. Paige’s life will never be the same again — and that’s partially because of a love triangle that develops with her two co-leads.
“The Duff” actress was seemingly a fan of the book before the project developed — the Amazon page for “Famous in Love” features a review from Thorne, who wrote that Serle “completely captured what it’s like to be a part of Young Hollywood.” “A must-read for anyone curious about life and love behind the scenes,” she praised.
Serle and King wrote the pilot together.
