Less than a week after the debut of her “Pretty Little Liars” spinoff “The Perfectionists” comes word that creator I. Marlene King has signed a two-year overall deal with Disney’s 20th Century Fox Television. The multi-hyphenate is leaving Warner Bros. Television after a decade with the studio, The Hollywood Reporter confirms.
The new pact sees King writing, developing, producing, and directing projects for broadcast, cable, and streaming platforms via her Long Lake Media banner.
King is currently serving as showrunner on Freeform’s “The Perfectionists,” a soapy mystery thriller that sees “Pretty Little Liars” characters Alison (Sasha Pieterse) and Mona (Janel Parrish) moving from Rosewood to Oregon when the former joins the faculty of a university.
Should “The Perfectionists” be renewed for a second season, sources say King will remain on board as an exec producer but a new showrunner will be named.
Best known for creating Freeform hit “Pretty Little Liars,” which aired from 2010-17, King’s other credits include short-lived “Pretty Little Liars” spinoff “Ravenswood,” “Just My Luck,” and “Now and Then.”
