Iliza Shlesinger’s Late-Night Show “Truth & Iliza” Gets Premiere Date

Iliza Shlesinger: Netflix

“Confirmed Kills” stand-up Iliza Schlesinger will soon be joining the Late Night Wars. The Tracking Board writes that Schlesinger’s “Truth & Iliza” will debut May 2 on Freeform and its digital platforms. The show’s initial order is for six episodes.

According to the source, each episode of “Truth & Iliza” will revolve around a theme question. Host Schlesinger will attempt to answer it “using audience interaction, field pieces, commentary, and, of course, jokes.”

Schlesinger, who is also an exec producer, said, “I’m so grateful to Freeform for inviting me to create a show that occupies a space between social commentary, politics, pop culture, and my specific brand of comedy and feminism.” She continued, “This show will inform, entertain, and it’s a great excuse to get a spray tan.”

Adding her voice to the late-night landscape has long been a goal for the comedian. “I used to take a recorder around and interview my parents and do impressions of my classmates as guests on my show,” Schlesinger recalled when news of “Truth & Iliza” first broke. “I started working on this goal in Hollywood years ago. I think comedy and the perception of women in comedy has evolved to a place where this show can finally be a reality on my own terms.”

Kim Gamble, Kara Baker, Jon Thoday, Richard Allen-Turner, and David Martin will also serve as executive producers on “Truth & Iliza.”

“Truth & Iliza” is far from Schlesinger’s only project. Just off a national stand-up tour, she is working on season 2 of her “Forever 31” web series on ABC’s digital platform, ABCd. “Forever 31” sees Schlesinger play an exaggerated version of herself as she faces “the indignities of dead-end jobs, hangovers, dating, infidelity, and all the rest of the absurdities of modern adulthood.” Her first book, “Girl Logic,” hits shelves in November.

The comedian also sold an untitled pilot to ABC last fall. Created and written by Schlesinger, project centers on a New York mother who relocates herself and her two children to Dallas after her husband abruptly divorces her. She has to readjust to being single — and being a single parent — while finding her way in a new town.

If you can’t wait for “Truth & Iliza” or the next season of “Forever 31,” you can check out Schlesinger’s stand-up comedy. She has three Netflix comedy specials: “Confirmed Kills,” “Freezing Hot,” and “War Paint.”

News of Shlesinger’s series comes on the heels of Sarah Silverman’s weekly half-hour talk show, “I Love You, America.” The political commentary show recently received a 10-episode straight-to-series order from Hulu.
