Maria Schrader’s got another winner on her hands. Last year she took home the Outstanding Directing for a Limited Series, Movie, or Dramatic Special Emmy and received a BAFTA award nomination for “Unorthodox,” and this year she has a film making a major impact on the awards circuit. Sci-fi rom-com “I’m Your Man” was the night’s big winner at Friday’s German Film Awards, landing honors for Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Actress (Maren Eggert).
Penned by Schrader and Jan Schomburg, “I’m Your Man” tells the story of an archeologist who is pressured to take extreme measures to fund her research. Alma (Eggert, “Tatort”) is pressured to participate in a three-week study that will see her living with Tom (Dan Stevens, “Legion”), a humanoid robot tailor-made to be her perfect life partner.
Last month Germany announced that “I’m Your Man” had been chosen to represent the country in the Best International Film category at the 2022 Academy Awards. You can catch it now in theaters.
