The good folks at the New York Film Academy have made another wonderful infographic, this time about black progress in Hollywood.
Though the number of speaking parts for black actors (12.4%) doesn’t fall too far behind the number of African Americans in the U.S. (13.1%), stereotypes about absent fathers and promiscuous women still prevail. The infographic also illustrates the high Rate on Investment (ROI) of black film — defined here as movies with “lead characters who are of African descent” — and spotlights some of the most prominent talents of this generation and the promising upstarts of the next.
Bonus infographic at the bottom about the kinds of high-profile roles black actresses are rewarded for.
