The director’s chair is one of the most influential thrones in Hollywood — and where women are least welcome, particularly at the studios. We’ve made some progress since the days when DGA meetings began with the words “Fellow Directors and Mrs. Lupino” (thank heaven for Ida), but it’s clear that institutional gender discrimination still governs daily business at the Big Six.
